Viharamahadevi Park & Town Hall
“Colombo’s lush emerald green lung with flowering trees and golden Buddha”
About & Heritage
Originally established by the British as Victoria Park, this expansive municipal green space was renamed after the heroic 2nd-century BC queen mother Viharamahadevi. The park features lush tropical foliage, lotus-filled ponds, hanging bridges, children’s play areas, and horse-drawn carriages on weekends.
The largest and oldest public park in Colombo, named in honor of ancient Queen Viharamahadevi. Famous for flowering cassia trees, fountains, and a monumental gilded Buddha statue facing Town Hall.
